About Eric...

Eric W. Hansen is a Texas glass artist specializing in lampwork encapsulation paperweights. He learned torchworking from his father, Richard Hansen, and paperweight making from his uncle Robert Hansen. Their work and his uncle Ronald Hansen’s work is well-known among many paperweight collectors.

Eric operates from his home studio, “Laughing Glass” in Argyle, Texas. Though mostly specializing in floral paperweights, he also creates many paperweights using other techniques such as crimp roses, crowns, and iridescent surface decorations. Blown work such as vases and goblets incorporating paperweight cane techniques can also be viewed and purchased through this website.

Paperweight making has been his passion for more than fifteen years, however Eric has
also maintained a separate occupation as a pilot. After graduating California State University, Chico in 1983, he was commissioned a Naval Officer, earned his wings, and flew as a carrier pilot for eight years. He now has worked as a commercial pilot for a major airline for more than twenty years. On his trips, he enjoys visiting glass studios, museums and galleries around the globe.
